Monday(ish) AI Resistance Update #8
A random sampling of stuff I've come across this week...

The kids are alright...
A rare feel good moment out of Florida which is doing the rounds to start with as the young ones over at the University Of Central Florida give a heartfelt reaction to the 'revolutionary' nature of AI...

Article - Starmer adviser held 16 undisclosed meetings with top US tech bosses
On a less cheerful note though, and one far closer to home for me, the increasingly rickety looking Starmer government is, unsurprisingly, slobbering all over the big tech boot. It's always a hard one to figure out exactly what the UK expects to gain from giving itself up for pretend AI 'sovereignty' via complete surrender to the passing whims of US tech giants. As with the failed opt-out system for UK data there's a definite ??? in between these poorly thought out plans and some imagined future profit but then that seems to be routine practice here at the moment. Says something either way though that you no longer need to lobby our government, they'll give you whatever you want before you even have to throw a few free concert tickets and a cushy post-politics job at them.
Event - An Evening of Techno-Negativity with MayDay rooms and Thomas Dekeyser
More parochial news and some very short notice but Thomas Dekeyser is speaking at the MayDay rooms in London tomorrow night. Obviously not one many are likely to make just because I mention it but definitely recommend checking his new book out anyway.
On a far more accessible note though Goldsmiths College is hosting a series of speakers between the 27th and 29th of May through their Critical AI Network group. It's free, it's online and it should be well worth a look. Personally I'm especially interested in the AI & Education session but something for everyone there.

Anyway, a bit of a brief one today (a day late too) but keeping my eye out as always so more to come next week...
